A series on Serendipity.
Recreating dreams, abstract thoughts, the unexpected from daily life and and extracts from novels that I have read.Architecture, Computer Animation, Visual Effects2014
Located in the picturesque countryside of the Surrey Greenbelt with the traditional patchwork of rural fields, Merstham is the typical quaint local village just a few minutes walk away and served by the Southern Rail company with access to Central London within 20 minutes.
For employees, visitors and future members and clients Bedlams Bank has a close proximity to the M25 / M23 Junction which makes it an ideal site for accessibility.
Bedlams Bank is predominantly a post-industrial brownfield site with a small portion of agricultural land. The surrounding countryside is relatively flat with little tree cover and would suit the purpose of farming energy.
The main driver for future investment into storage and facility maintenance is that Bedlams Bank is one of several mines in the area and has a rich Greensand vein that has been mined since the Roman era. During the construction of the M25 the public access to the mine was isolated and sealed off by concrete foundations as the engineers did not wish the M25 to subside.
A spatio-temporal investigation into trauma.
The perception of our space is based on our senses so what happens when we blink? or when we are in a coma?
In a liminal space and time - not alive and vital organs being monitored what does one experience when trying to escape back to reality? Back to a familiar space? What is real and what is constructed?Architecture, Computer Animation, Film2014
A COLLECTION OF RENDER TEST STRIPS

5 seconds has altered my experience of cycling in the urban realm.
Whilst cycling my perceived personal space becomes compressed in
certain traffic situations stimulating an auto-pharmacological reaction
from the adrenal cortex and igniting prior memories that converge
with my present experience causing disruptions and interventions in
space and time.Architecture, Computer Animation, Film2014
The Allotment is an oasis in the urban desert. The interior of the allotment is connected to its immediate physical site by the surrounding sounds.
Is this nature?
The traffic from the nearby dual carriageway leading into Brighton sounds become abstracted and could be considered to be a nearby stream.
he proposed Allotment Society Hut. A seasonal design: The Society shop is the stable core where they sell seeds, stores tools to borrow / hire and provides specific information for the allotmenteers.
Winter it closes up and the meetings happen on the inside.
Summer it opens up to reveal the internal spaces - eastern side for private meetings / western for communal meetings / exhibitions and more public events.Architecture2014
An estate based on the Garden City model but incomplete because of various cuts and prohibition after World War II.
70 years on Moulsecoomb is typical of many council estates with a “churn” cycle of DSS tenants.
The community aspect was never really complete - leisure centres, shops, community centres, live - work offices / studios. Recent money awarded by EU funding has started to rebalance this.
The Project is about connecting people at a Local level through a common venture - in this case - Viticulture. The creation of Local interaction by Local people for the benefit of a much wider population.
A step toward banishing the prejudices that this estate has thrown at it.Architecture2014
The extremes in the past would have brought the community together.
Annual melt-water from the mountains would have threatened to flood the city each year.
Today however the numerous tributaries that flow into the Rio Guadalquivir upstream from Cordoba have all been dammed off and so the flow of water into Cordoba is regulated and managed.
Previously though a flood of melt water would produce a height gain of some 12m.
The proposal relates to the memory of these extreme events.
I have chosen ice to provoke this memory.
Ice is the life force of Andalucia providing water to this very arid region from the Sierra Nevada; which the Moors harnessed for agriculture.
I propose the first set of ice columns to hold fig seeds that will drop out of the ice columns onto the suspended mesh covered growing medium walkways which over time will develop into a fig tree plantation.
In the Future ice columns could be branded to incorporate seedbombs / bulbs / plastic ducks / LEDs / candy / balls / fruit etc..Architecture, Landscape Design2014
A skin that mediates the light.
The denizen (inhabitant of the communal space) can manipulate the skin dependant upon the seasonal and diurnal conditions beyond the studio.
In so doing they are in control of their surroundings - and can create sets of conditions from the intimate to the collective.
Construction and installation of a 1:2 facsimile of the proposal brought about a distinct change to the life of the studio.Architecture2014
Construct a desirable object for a maker: a sculptor and local blacksmith: Conan Sturdy.
After living the life of a blacksmith for a couple of days, I constructed the object and exhibited it at the TEA building.
The object was drawn to post rationalise the process, and to prepare a final set of architectural drawngs.Architecture, Drawing2014
Abstraction from the initial sketches that were then further abstracted and transformed through various processes including Photocopier, Line Drawings, Models, Photographs, Scale Representations, Photoshop and finally into CAD.Architecture, Drawing2014
Welding Workshop run by Gaz Price from Scroller Metal Work
Organised by the Travellers' School Charity
Supported by Children in Need.
Firstly welding with young people (10 years old) sounds dangerous but welding is a vital skill for people "on the road". The young people that attended this class learned that Welding is exciting and dangerous - it is something that tested their hand-eye coordination and their capacity to take on new information, they all acted sensibly and began to trust in their own ability.
Gaz Price from Scroller Metal Work allowed the young people to take on board what he was saying through practice and repeating the processes on small pieces of sheet metal before trying to conquer the final construction out of scrap metal found in and around the workshop / studio.
The final outcome being a trivet for the fire (a three legged stand for pans when cooking on the fire).Motion Graphics, Photojournalism2014
